Introducing Workshop of Wonders: Inventions Through Time
We’re excited to introduce Workshop of Wonders, a new interactive history adventure at Miniature Masterminds!
Workshop of Wonders was created to make history feel less like memorizing dates and more like actually stepping into the past. Instead of simply reading about inventions, students investigate how they worked, experiment with materials, complete hands-on challenges, manufacture products, trade between historical communities, and build their own growing museum of discoveries.

History You Can Explore
The adventure begins with some of humanity’s earliest technologies and continues through ancient civilizations, engineering, trade networks, medieval innovation, printing, navigation, and Renaissance ideas.
The full adventure includes 12 historical chapters and 74 inventions.
Students encounter technologies such as stone tools, pottery, farming equipment, writing systems, papermaking, movable type, water-lifting devices, clocks, roads, aqueducts, pulleys, glassmaking, printing presses, navigation tools, and much more.
But Workshop of Wonders is about more than seeing a picture of an invention.
Students learn why the invention was useful, what materials were needed, how the mechanism worked, and what historical evidence tells us about it.
Build It, Test It, and Understand It
One of the biggest parts of Workshop of Wonders is the interactive Hands-On Labs.
Students may need to prepare clay, choose appropriate stone, control a furnace, form a sheet of paper, manage a mechanical system, test a structure, or adjust parts of an invention until it works correctly.
Activities are designed around a simple idea:
Predict. Build. Test. Apply. Explain.
The goal is not only to get the right answer. Students should come away understanding why the technology worked.

Run Your Own Historical Workshop
There is also a larger strategy game built around the history lessons.
Students operate their own workshop, where they can purchase or earn raw materials, unlock recipes, manufacture inventions, improve product quality, upgrade production, travel between historical markets, complete customer contracts, and earn coins and reputation.
Material prices are different from place to place, so students have to make decisions about where to buy supplies and where their finished products may be worth more.
This gives children another reason to understand what they are making instead of simply clicking through lessons.
Gather Historical Resources
Workshop materials aren’t simply handed to the player.
Students can buy them at regional markets or earn some through interactive Resource Trail activities.
These include stone selection and knapping, twisting plant fibers into cord, preparing workable clay, harvesting and winnowing grain, identifying ore and controlling a furnace, making paper, and preparing and shaping glass.
The resource games include short lessons along the way so even gathering materials becomes part of the learning experience.
Become a History Detective
History is rarely as simple as saying, “One person invented this on this exact day.”
Workshop of Wonders introduces students to the idea of historical evidence.
They examine artifacts, archaeological evidence, written records, and surviving technology while learning to separate what historians know from what remains uncertain.
Students will meet famous historical figures, but they will also learn about the craftspeople, builders, merchants, scholars, and communities whose names were never recorded.

Great for Homeschool History
Workshop of Wonders was designed with homeschool families and independent learners in mind.
Students can work through the chapters as a connected history adventure, or families can use individual inventions alongside a history, science, STEM, or engineering lesson.
It can also be a fun way to introduce discussions about engineering, economics, trade, geography, archaeology, problem-solving, and how ideas spread between cultures.
Your Workshop Is Ready
Start with the First Makers, investigate some of humanity’s earliest technologies, gather your first supplies, and begin building a workshop that will travel through thousands of years of invention.
As your museum grows, you’ll begin to see something important: inventions don’t exist by themselves. New technologies are often built on older ideas, adapted by different cultures, improved by generations of craftspeople, and shared through travel and trade.
That is the story behind Workshop of Wonders: Inventions Through Time.
