I Am Brave is a devotional book dedicated to girls ages 8 to 12 that teaches them about being themselves. The book introduces the girls to 5 brave girls who become like friends through the journey from cover to cover.

The first thing that happens in the characters introduce themselves and tell about their lives. They talk about things that normal girls can relate to such as playing sports or moving away from their friends. The girls, Hope, Glory, Faith, Gracie, and Honor, share their experiences which really bring them to life for the girl reading the book.

Each lesson is different with different activities and showcase different pictures of the characters and games. There is a lesson which is usually a story about another girl who learns a relate-able lesson. There is also a Bible verse to go along with the lesson and at the bottom is a short prayer for the girls to learn. Then there are fun games and activities to complete. My daughter loved the lesson on what makes her laugh and exploring what she finds funny. She also really enjoyed filling out the about her questions.

We also did a lesson on the Ripple Effect which was pretty interesting to think about. We haven’t made it all the way through the book but I have read ahead to get a good grasp on it. It explores several things that girls in this age group struggle with. I love that it refers to them as brave girls because they have to be brave in the world now. It can be scaring at times.
