Singapore Math Dimensions Math PK-5 Review
I was very excited to recently review the Dimensions Math PK-5 1B Book from Singapore Math Inc. I have heard such awesome things in my homeschool groups about the books. I will say the books are very well put together and I love the added practice in the work book. Math is one of those subjects that my little one asks to do and she has really excelled in the subject. I am not a math person. I struggle with math. It’s one of my worst subjects so to see my daughter interested in it makes me really happy. Some of the First Grade curriculum we have used has been on the easy side for her and she has been known to refer to it as baby math. The Dimensions Math book did have a few activities she thought were going to be too easy but she quickly found out that they start out with a lesson and build on that lesson. Meaning it may be easy to begin with but then the lessons begin to elaborate and get harder.
The books available that I reviewed are the Textbook 1B, Workbook 1 B, and Teacher’s Guide 1B.

Lulu was very excited with the Textbook because it was fully colored with cute images and pictures of cartoon kids to go along with the lessons. She loved the way the lessons are broken down and explained before getting to the practice. There are plenty of opportunities for hands on learning which is such a great way for our visual learners to catch onto to concepts. You can almost see those lights clicking on in their eyes.
Getting to the Workbook was a little different for us. It’s a great resource to have and continue the lesson but the lack of color really had her wanting to do more in the Textbook. It took her a few lessons before she really could flip between them. The workbook is full of practice that corresponds to the textbook lessons. The workbook has a lot more work in it and in my opinion is vital to a solid foundation in those skills.
The teacher’s book is a nice resource to help with concepts that I don’t really know how to handle. I often don’t use the teacher books in a lot of other curriculum but this one has come in handy. It has some suggestions in it as well as goals and objectives. It also has the answer key to the books which I will admit I may have had to look at. That is a little embarrassing seeing as I’m a college graduate and this is First Grade lol.
Overall we love the Dimensions Math PK-5 1B Book from Singapore Math Inc.curriculum. My favorite part is the colorful lessons in the Textbook. I think that was what my daughter enjoyed the most as well. She said it looked happy. I love the art style. I am more of a creative minded person so what I notice is the design more so than the actual math. My daughter is the more logical minded side and she commented on the way the math was taught. She was the one that pointed out that it was broken down into easier to understand steps. I could see us to continue to use this curriculum for math especially as she gets older.
