Math Connections with the Real World With NatureGlo’s eScience Review
NatureGlo’s eScience has lessons that are a little different than the curriculum we have been do up to this point. She takes math, science, art, and history and combines it into fun and educational lessons that last 6 weeks. The lessons have live lessons where the kids can ask questions and learn in real time or they can watch the videos anytime. They are aimed at 10 and up but work well with the 11-14 group in our opinion.
Instead, I sat down with my son and we worked through several of the lessons together over the course of a few weeks. It reinforced something I already knew, kids all learn differently and what doesn’t work for one can light a light in the other’s eyes and make him actually want to sit beside me and watch videos about math and history. It became our time together and we each learned several new things. He was really interested in MathArt in Ancient Cultures which was another on of the lessons. It amazed him how many bricks they used to build the city of Babylon. He decided to try to recreate the city on a smaller scale in his Minecraft world.
This lessons are full of videos and fun projects to help engage the children. She has also provided resources to help build on the lessons. I love how she takes history and art and shows how math was involved in them. It also gave my son a new understanding on math concepts and where they came from. I think he thought I invented them to torture him because he was surprised they used the same principles back in the time of King Nebuchadnezzar.
One of the activities was to make Fibonacci Cookies. They really wanted to do that activity but we went a different way. We took the lesson and recreated it in the real world but in the form of a snack. It was quite fun. Although, I couldn’t get my string cheese to cooperate with me to finish it off. 🙂
Finish it up!
NatureGlo’s eScience has classes that you can purchase and use for a whole year. They are informative classes your children can attend live or watch on your schedule and last for 6 weeks. Each lesson has resources and projects to reinforce the concepts along with videos. With the MathArt Online 4-Class Bundle set your child can learn about math through history and art. It’s a very informative set of classes.
