Home School Tips From Pure Flix

As a home schooling parent I am always looking for new ideas to help my kids learn. I try to be as child centered and individually aimed as possible as that seems to be what works best. Each child is different and learns differently, so it has taken some time to figure out the best possible route for each child. I thought if I could get them in an online program it would help with guiding that learning experience. I actually thought an online school would work good for all three but I will be honest, we are struggling pretty bad right now with the stringent set routine and unclear directions. We work best in a relaxed environment where we can learn at our own speed and in our own way. It’s been really crazy around here lately trying to fit everything into a single day and I’m not sure exactly what we are getting out of the rush of trying to just keep up.

I was sent this awesome graphic and thought I would share with you all. I actually wrote out some advice to add to this graphic a while ago. I actually wrote out some advice to add to this graphic a while ago. It’s just been so crazy I kept forgetting to share in rushing around. This morning I was awakened early because my unconscious mind was already thinking about the day and all that was expected knowing that in the end I would be rushing to work frazzled while the kids were all breaking down emotionally on my mom’s couch. Just like everyday for the past three months has been. It was then that I had a light bulb moment, I realized I should follow my own advice.

It’s okay if we don’t figure out the complexities of the universe all in one day.

It’s okay if we take an extra day to learn something. A solid foundation for learning the next skill will be better than a Jinga tower of math facts in the long run.

It’s okay if we spend a whole day working on an art project. So many things can be learned while glue strips of paper to a cardboard box that can’t be learned while trying to cram the brain full of stuff they won’t remember tomorrow anyway.

It’s okay if we count a nature walk or documentary on cheetahs as our Science class.

It’s okay if I allow my children to be children while they can.

We don’t have to be perfect, we just have to be us and that is perfect.

Online media is a great tool to have for the classroom as a homeschool resource. It fits perfectly into a relaxed curriculum as it does in a more formal curriculum. It makes a great add in for what you are learning and the sheer amount available online means there is probably a visual tool for anything you plan. Most kids are visual learners and will respond favorably to age appropriate videos and glean some valuable information from them.

These are just a few more awesome tools for the tool box.
