Heart Shaped Valentine’s Day Sensory I Spy Craft

What to do on a cold wet rainy day inside with the kids and they are bored of everything? I question that myself as I stood looking at a house full of toys and three children who in turn were looking at me for an idea. I opened the craft cabinets and spotted these clear heart shaped candy holders.  I had an idea for us to turn them into sensory shapes. I grabbed some odds and ends out of the cabinet and we set to work filling hearts and adding decorations inside. Then when we were done making them, they played with them for a little while. The heart shaped sensory craft was easy and fun!

I found these hearts at a thrift shop in the craft section although any craft store probably has something similar. First fill both heart halves with water beads, buttons, glitter, and what ever you are going to put into your sensory shape. You can add anything you like to your shapes. I added glitter, heart gems, fake rose petals, and pom poms.

You can slide the plastic wrap out once the hearts are together before you connect them or leave them in. You could even do each side a different color that way if you left the wrap and cut it to almost the edge of the heart.

Hot glue around the whole shape to keep the pieces together. I waited for the glue to cool a little and used a pencil eraser to smear the glue down flat. Than your child can shake and view all the different things inside. My youngest daughter loved hers.

The water beads will dry out over a few days but you can peel away the hot glue and start over with something else inside your heart container. I’m thinking of trying rice next time.

I think they turned out perfectly and my kids loved them.
