Veggie Pops – Growing Radishes

Disclosure: We received this product for review purposes but all opinions are our own.

We have always wanted to plant a garden but as luck would have it I was born with a black thumb. I didn’t inherit my grandfather’s farming ability. He grew everything, I can’t get wildflowers or grass to grow.

I always joke and say I can only grow children not plants.

CB decided she wanted to take up gardening. So when I was offered the chance to let her review Veggie Pops, I couldn’t say no.

Did you know that kids that grow their own veggies are alot more likely to eat them?

Veggie pops are seeds inside of a biodegradable shell like that protects them and contains what they need to sprout. All you add is water, sunshine, and soil.

They have several different varieties such as squash, beans, carrots….  Check them out.

Who could? These are just adorable!

We received the cutest setup shortly after. She was so excited.

She wanted to get growing that day.

These pops are so simple to get started.  We picked the radish to grow first.

She put it in water as the instructions said before planting.

CB put her soil into her planter. She couldn’t help but stir it up some. It was so funny to watch her face as she poured water into the soil and it grew like a sponge. She was clearly amazed.

Than she planted the pop with anticipation of a magical moment similar to Jack and the Beanstalk. She didn’t seem to understand that it would take a few days but she was just eager for it to grow.

Then you have to remember to water them. That is why I have never succeeded in growing plants. I can’t never remember. My daughter hasn’t forgotten. She must have taken that after her daddy.

Did you know you also have to remember to talk to them? I didn’t know that either but apparently plants liked to be talked to.

She likes to tell them good morning.

And she will tell them good night and can’t go to bed without her nightly talk to her plant.

It helps them to grow faster. Something about her stories just perks them right up.

She is already planning on expanding her garden. She has been eyeing the tomato pops for two weeks.

Did you know?

Did you also know that radishes have a very quick growth cycle? The are also known as the best first plant for a child. They can sprout from seed to small plant in as little as 3 days!

They are also a very low calorie snack. You can have a WHOLE cup for 19 calories!

California and Florida claim to grow the most radishes out of the United States although they are grown everywhere. They are also grown all year long.

Radishes are good for stomachaches and help rid you of the hiccups. They are known as a root vegetable and are related to cabbage. They are rich in ascorbic acid, folic acid, and potassium. Sounding better every minute aren’t they?

Radishes were used as currency to pay wages in Ancient Egypt to the laborers who built the pyramids. Along with garlic and onions they served as pay. Could you imagine working slave labor for a bag of garlic, onions, and radishes?

Some Radishes can grow up to 3 feet long and weigh in at 100 lbs. CB’s did not get this big which is a good thing. We could never lift 3 100 lb radishes.

So now you know all about radishes and how wonderful they are!
