 4th of July Fireworks Art Project For Kids
History lesson. Does anyone know the reason we celebrate the 4th day in July? It’s a super easy question. 
 
Freedom
Independence
 
And while we are all spending our time watching fireworks or cooking out, we should remember exactly what those two words mean and what exactly happened on July 4, 1776 when a document that later contained the signatures of 56 men was first signed by John Hancock.
A document that said:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
 
Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness for every human being…. That is what we are celebrating. The foundation of our country and the lives of those that have lived and died to support those three fundamental key pieces of what our country was built upon.
Okay on to the project!
Materials:
Straw
Cloth Scrap
Tape or Ribbon or rubber band (anything to secure the cloth to the straw)
2 cups or bowls
Food Coloring or paint 
 

Setup:
Add your coloring to the two cups. One red and one blue. This can be thinned out paint, food coloring, or kool aid drink mix.
Wrap the end of your straw with your fabric. The fabric will help hold on to the liquid. You could experiment with different thicknesses to see what happens. We used a thinner material but I also tried a thicker flannel too. The thicker material looked more like an air brush and the thinner material did more large drips. 
We tied ours on with ribbon. Tape probably would work but I have a little girl who keeps using all my tape and I never have any on hand. Ribbon on the other hand, I always have a stash of some form of ribbon. 
 

Project:
Dip the end with the cloth in your color mixture.
.
Blow into the straw onto the paper. We used the same straw for both colors and it worked our perfectly. 
Fireworks can be any color. Let the kids be creative.
