We made Play Dough…
Again
Same but Different.
It’s amazing to look back and see just how much I have grown in photography and blog layout. You can read my past post at this link.
I see a big improvement and that is motivation to continue to improve.
This time we did things a little differently. I have gotten a little more confidence in the cooking department and decided we would make the dough from what we knew worked.
Materials:
Flour
Oil
Food Coloring
Water
Cream of Tarter
Salt
Cinnamon
plus Salt… I forgot the salt when taking this picture.
Start with equal parts of flour and water. We did 2 cups of each and it made plenty of dough.
Put half of that measurement in salt. Such as if you put 1 cup flour and 1 cup water only put 1/2 cup salt. Or if you put 2 cups flour and water put 1 cup salt.
Add a couple tablespoons of oil and a spoon full of the cream of tarter stuff.
Here is where our recipe changes a little.. We added a little vanilla and cinnamon to make the stuff smell good. Normally home made play dough smells horrible but with the added cinnamon it smelled up the whole kitchen.
Stir Stir Stir this icky mess till it looks like the picture below. Don’t let it rest or it will burn.
We then rolled it into a long tube and I used a butter knife to cut it into chunks.
We flattened each chunk out and added food coloring to the center. We mixed colors to get the colors we wanted. It was a great color mixing lesson. Although our purple kinda doesn’t look like purple.
After the food coloring is added, they have to be mixed, and mixed….
And then mixed some more…. This was the part that was the hardest for my accustomed to instant gratification children. The colors didn’t happen fast enough but they do happen.
The more food coloring you use the more vibrant the color. It can be done in layers, add two drops and then mix, when that is all mixed in add two more and so on. Also, purple does not make a good color for play dough.
Then it’s fun time.
Bear made pizza, and a taco, a cheeseburger, and spaghetti and meat balls. It occurs to me that activities like this should be done after dinner so they aren’t sitting there thinking about dinner.
Lou made an apple. I love this picture but it also makes me sad. She looks so big in it. She is also wearing her big brother’s shirt she stole from his dresser because she wanted to be Elmo color.
